KTM 390 Recall 2025–2026: Side Stand Spring Issue on Adventure R, Adventure X, Enduro R and SMC R

KTM has issued a global recall for the 2025–2026 KTM 390 Adventure R, Adventure X, Enduro R and SMC R due to a side stand spring that can break from engine vibrations and potentially let the stand drop while riding. The fix includes a new spring, added rubber protection and, on some bikes, an updated side stand sensor plate. All work will be carried out free of charge at authorized KTM dealers to maintain safety, reliability and rider confidence.

KTM has announced a global safety recall for the 2025–2026 KTM 390 Adventure R, 390 Adventure X, 390 Enduro R and 390 SMC R due to a side stand spring issue that can affect rider safety. This recall is valid for all markets and targets motorcycles equipped with forged side stands, where engine vibrations may cause the side stand spring to break over time. Although only a small number of cases have been identified, KTM is proactively updating all affected 390 models to maintain performance, reliability and customer trust.

The recall covers four key models in the 390 platform: KTM 390 Adventure R, KTM 390 Adventure X, KTM 390 Enduro R and KTM 390 SMC R for model years 2025 and 2026. Quality inspections have shown that on bikes fitted with specific forged side stands, the side stand spring can fail because of sustained engine vibrations, potentially allowing the stand to drop unexpectedly. While this problem does not affect other side stand types in the lineup, KTM is treating it as a safety‑critical concern and has launched a full service campaign through its official dealer network.

KTM is instructing all owners of these models to book an appointment with an authorized KTM dealer as soon as possible. During the workshop visit, technicians will replace the original side stand spring with an updated part and install a rubber protection element designed to better secure and protect the spring in real‑world riding conditions. Until the replacement is carried out, KTM recommends that riders temporarily secure the side stand using a rubber band or a similar solution so they can travel safely to the dealership.

On certain motorcycles, dealers will also fit a new side stand sensor retaining plate as part of the same recall action. This additional component fine‑tunes the trigger range of the side stand switch, improving the reliability of the sensor signal sent to the motorcycle’s electronics. Not every motorcycle will need this extra update, so the authorized KTM dealer will confirm during the service visit whether a given 390 Adventure R, 390 Adventure X, 390 Enduro R or 390 SMC R requires the sensor plate.

All recall work related to the KTM 390 side stand spring – including the spring replacement, rubber protection and any required side stand sensor plate – will be carried out free of charge. Only KTM’s authorized dealer network is permitted to perform this update, ensuring the work meets factory quality standards and is correctly logged in the service history. Owners will receive an official letter with instructions, and they can also use KTM’s official channels to verify whether their motorcycle is affected and to locate a nearby dealer.

With this recall, KTM is reinforcing its Ready To Race philosophy by addressing a potential weakness before it becomes a widespread problem for 390 owners. The measure is a proactive step aimed at preserving rider safety, maintaining the performance reputation of the KTM 390 series and strengthening long‑term customer confidence in the brand. For riders, completing the side stand spring recall ensures their KTM 390 Adventure R, 390 Adventure X, 390 Enduro R or 390 SMC R continues to deliver dependable everyday usability along with the strong on‑road and off‑road performance these models are known for.
